Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is a vibrant blend of ancient tradition and cutting-edge innovation. This sprawling metropolis is home to historic palaces, bustling markets, futuristic architecture, and a thriving arts scene, making it a cultural, technological, and historical hub of East Asia.

Begin your exploration of Seoul with a visit to Gwangjang Market, one of the country’s oldest and largest traditional markets. Formerly known as Dongdaemun Market, it is especially renowned for its beautiful fabrics, including those used to make traditional Korean clothing called hanbok. Continue on to the nearby Bangsan Wholesale Market and Jung-gu Dried Seafood Market for a fascinating glimpse into the city’s diverse offerings.

Day 2: Full Day Seoul City Tour

Garden behind the ruins of the Changdeokgung Palace also known as Huwon or forbidden garden, Jongno District, Seoul, South Korea

After breakfast at your hotel, set off for a full day exploring Seoul. Your tour begins with a visit to Gyeongbokgung (Gyeongbok) Palace, the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty. Originally built in 1395, it was expanded in 1867 to become the largest—and arguably most beautiful—of Seoul’s five palaces, with a total of 330 buildings.

Continue your morning with a visit to the National Museum of Contemporary Korean History for insights into how Korea transformed from an agricultural society into the modern economic powerhouse it is today.

After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll visit Changdeokgung Palace. In addition to being one of the best-preserved palaces, this UNESCO World Heritage site is known for its Secret Garden, where man-made structures were designed in harmony with the natural landscape.

The last visit of the day is to Hanyangdoseong. Also known as the Seoul City Wall, this defensive structure was built more than 600 years ago and remains one of Korea’s major historical monuments. Take a walk along the wall and enjoy the surrounding views.

Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before returning to your hotel for the evening.

Day 3: Seoul and the Korean Demilitarized Zone

Border between South and North Korea - The Demilitarized zone

After breakfast, meet your guide for an excursion to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the heavily fortified border that has separated North and South Korea since 1953. The DMZ offers a rare glimpse into the tensions and hopes that continue to shape the peninsula. Your visit includes time at key sites such as Freedom Bridge, once used by repatriated prisoners of war returning home; the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, a clandestine passage dug by North Korea and later discovered by the South; and Imjingak Park, filled with poignant memorials and monuments to divided families. At the DMZ Museum, learn more about the Korean War and the continuing significance of the zone through photographs, documents, and artifacts. The experience culminates at the Dora Observatory, where, on a clear day, you can peer across the border into North Korea itself—an unforgettable vantage point that underscores both the history and the fragile hope of eventual reunification.
